Dr. Hightower is a San Francisco a diagnostician and an internal medicine doctor who discovered many of her patients had mercury poisoning, with nausea, trouble concentrating, hair loss, fainting spells, stomach upset and tiredness, which she traced to eating fish. She and her patients felt betrayed when they discovered fish was not healthy food, and the FDA was not protecting them from poisons in their food. She recently wrote a resolution for the American Medical Association`s annual meeting that calls for more research, updated safety standards, food labeling and more education on mercury. She is the author of the current best selling book, Diagnosis: Mercury: Money, Politics, and Poison and an opponent of the fishing industry.
